For vehicles registered in the UK the registration plate must be (currently under review)
- present
- secure
- not faded, dirty or obscured
- have correctly formed letters and spacing. (see fig.1)
The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) number must be*
- permanently displayed
- consistent (in all locations)
- Legible.
* Required on all vehicles first used on or after 1st August 1980.
