The last thing we want to do is fail your car, let alone if its on silly little things that could have been avoided. So, although we do offer servicing and repairs, heres a few things you can check before you come!
The 5 minute Pre-test Test!
Lights.
Around 23% of all MoT failures are due to lighting issues. So heres what to check.
Are they all working? Dont forget, side lights (front and rear), dipped beam, main beam, indicators with side repeaters, hazards, rear fog (drivers side only) and stop lights.
Are all of the switches secure and working well?
Horn.
Does it work? Is it loud enough for others to hear? Is the switch easily reached by driver?
Windscreen
Are there any chips or cracks? If so, are they more than 40mm in size within the swept area of the screen, or 10mm infront of the driver? If they are larger than that, it is a failure. Most insurers offer windcreen insurance these days so it may be worth checking.
Washers and wipers
Do your washers work? Do they point at the screen? Do the wipers work? Do they clear the windscreen properly or do they leave stripes? If they leave stripes then this will be a failure. If the blade is coming off the wiper or its insecure then this is also a failure.
Mirrors
Are all of your mirrors complete and in good condition? If not, dependant on which ones are damaged or missing, it could be a failure.
Sharp edges
Are there any sharp edges on the body work caused my damage or corrosion? Quite often(but not every time), a layer of tape to remove sharp edges will prevent a failure.
Number plates
Are they present, secure and the correct size? Are they under written or do they have non standard symbols like cartoon characters on them? Are they starting to de laminate or ae they dirty? Are they the correct colour for the year? Is the spacing of letters even and correct? All these constitute failure.
Tyres.
10% of all MoT failures are due to tyres.
Check tread depth (min 1.6mm on cars). size- same size should be fitted to both sides of the vehicle. Condition - are there any cuts or bulges?
